The rock support department at Saferoad Vik Ørsta, Pla-Mek® and Oceanize won Teamwork of the Year at the IDC Awards 2026 for their collaboration on the CT-bolt. The CT-bolt is a rock bolt for tunnels, and its plastic parts are made from discarded rope from Norwegian aquaculture and fisheries.

The collaboration shows how three companies can bring out the best in each other. Oceanize sorts, grinds and washes PP and PE rope from aquaculture and fisheries. Pla-Mek® uses the granulate as raw material to make injection tubes for the CT-bolt. The rock support team at Saferoad Vik Ørsta then uses the tubes to produce the CT-bolt. This means rope that would otherwise have become waste gets a new, long life inside the rock. The benefit is measurable: in 2024 alone, recycled plastic from Oceanize cut CO2 emissions by 183 tonnes, according to Energiråd AS.

“It’s great to see a spotlight on collaboration like this. A lot of the important work happens between companies, not just within each of them. We depend on good partners who know us well and understand our needs and our customers’ needs,” says Eirik Romestrand, Product Manager for Rock Support.

Teamwork of the Year award honours those who build strong teams, bring together different perspectives and skills, and put collaboration at the heart of good design.

Pla-Mek® and Saferoad Vik Ørsta have worked together on product development for decades. A year ago they took the next step and also began working together on marketing. In other words, the companies collaborate and work as a team on several levels.

The award shows that sustainability and quality can go hand in hand. Requirements for a lower climate footprint are becoming more and more important in tenders. That makes it essential to have local partners who deliver high quality.
