Nominated: Teamwork of the Year

Saferoad Vik Ørsta has been nominated for the Teamwork of the Year award at the IDC Awards 2026, together with Pla-Mek® and Oceanize. The nomination recognises their collaboration on the CT bolt. This is a rock support bolt for tunnels, and its plastic components are made from discarded ropes from the Norwegian aquaculture and fisheries industries.

The collaboration shows how three companies can bring out the best in each other. Oceanize sorts, grinds and washes PP and PE ropes from aquaculture and fisheries. The plastic is remelted into granules, and the quality is tested in a laboratory. At Pla-Mek®, the granules are used as raw material in the production of injection pipes for the CT bolt. The material is processed in an extruder and further refined into technical plastic components.

Saferoad Vik Ørsta assembles the pipes with ribbed steel from Mo i Rana, after it has been hot-dip galvanised and coated at the production facility in Ørsta. The bolt is then packed and sent to tunnel projects. In this way, ropes that would otherwise have become waste are given a new and long life inside the mountain. The benefits can be measured: in 2024 alone, the recycled plastic from Oceanize resulted in 183 tonnes lower CO2 emissions, according to Energiråd AS. The entire value chain focuses on quality, efficiency and sustainability.

“We are proud to be nominated together with Saferoad Vik Ørsta and Oceanize. This collaboration shows what is possible when we know each other well, trust each other and dare to think in new ways. Ropes that were once waste are now part of a bolt that will help secure tunnels for many decades,” says Sonja Øye, Marketing Manager at Pla-Mek®.

Pla-Mek® and Saferoad Vik Ørsta have worked together on product development for several decades, and a year ago they also took the next step by joining forces on the marketing side. Following initiative and coordination from Pla-Mek®, campaign material was developed across the three companies to promote the product to the market. In other words, this is collaboration and teamwork on several levels within the companies.

For Saferoad Vik Ørsta, the nomination shows that sustainability and quality can go hand in hand. Requirements for a lower climate footprint are becoming increasingly important in tenders. In that context, it is crucial to have local partners who maintain high quality.
