Saferoad Group’s science-based climate targets validated by SBTi

Published on June 12, 2025

Saferoad is proud to announce that its near- and long-term greenhouse gas emission reduction targets have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This validation places Saferoad among a growing group of companies taking transparent, science-based climate action.

This confirms that Saferoad’s targets are firmly grounded in the latest climate science and in line with the ambition of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

“Having our targets validated by the SBTi gives credibility to our climate ambitions. It confirms that we are on a verified path to reduce emissions across our operations and supply chain in line with the latest climate science. Sustainability and safety are linked, and this milestone strengthens our role in supporting a safe and climate-resilient infrastructure for the future,” says Bernd Frühwald, CEO of Saferoad Group.

Approved targets:

  • Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 60% by 2034, from a 2023 base year
  • Reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, and upstream transportation and distribution by 35% by 2034
  • Ensure that 25% of suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution have science-based targets by 2029
  • Reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050, with any remaining emissions neutralised in line with the SBTi Net-Zero Standard

All targets were validated under the SBTi’s Net-Zero Standard and reflect a commitment to prioritise deep, direct emissions cuts across the value chain. The target boundaries include land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

The SBTi’s validation process is rigorous and science-driven, ensuring that company targets meet the highest standards for credibility, transparency and alignment with climate science.

We remain vigilant of the investment and operational changes necessary to reach our targets, and the regulatory developments required to support our transition.

Saferoad will report progress annually in accordance with the SBTi’s criteria.

A call to action
The climate emergency demands collective action. Saferoad encourages its peers, partners, and suppliers to set their own science-based targets in line with the 1.5°C trajectory. Collaboration across industries and value chains is essential to accelerate the transition to a net-zero future.
